A randomized controlled trial of bilateral subthalamic STimulation in patients with Parkinson’s disease and IMPulse Control disorders
The study was registered in the international ClinTrials register.
Detailed information on the study can be found here (Link zu ClinTrials.gov).
Impulse control disorders and related behavioral disorders (ICBD), such as increased sexual desire, pathological gambling or disordered eating behavior, can occur as a side effect of drug treatment for Parkinson’s disease and can significantly impair the quality of life of those affected and their relatives.
In the “STIMPulseControl” study, we are comparing the effect of deep brain stimulation with the effect of the best possible recommended medical treatment.
The study participants are randomly assigned to one of the two treatment groups (deep brain stimulation, best possible medical treatment).
Through regular, close medical contact and the precise recording of symptoms, we expect a positive effect for all study participants.
